How Duct Heat Gain Affects Comfort

Air conditioning systems are designed to remove heat and humidity from inside our homes and put it outside. Heat infiltrates our homes through walls, floors, windows, ducts, ceilings, fireplaces, cooking, cleaning and various other ways. The largest Heat Gain into our homes is through windows (Glass) and duct systems.

The integrity of the duct system is not always taken into consideration when sizing an air conditioning system for your home. Not knowing the configuration of the duct system will cause most A/C systems to be undersized, thus causing you to be less comfortable. Also, It is costing you money to use you’re A/C system to remove heat that came from Duct Heat Gain. Increasing the R-Value and re-configuring your duct system will increase comfort and save you money on operating costs.
